My grandfather was in elementary school when the Cathedral was being built. There was a campaign in City of Pittsburgh schools for students to bring 10 cents to buy a brick in the Cathedral. My grandfather did take in the 10 cents to buy a brick. It was always a source of pride for him that he bought a brick in the building where his first grandchild went to college.
