My grandfather worked on the building of the Cathedral after he moved to McKees Rocks. He was a bricklayer and mason who knew stonework. He had two men that worked as his crew. On weekends and after the week’s quitting time, he and his crew worked on taking down old brick homes where parts of the mew Cathedral would go. He took the uncleaned bricks back to the backyard of the home in "The Rocks.” There, my father and his brother would clean off the old cement and make a pile of bricks to build a garage as big as a dump truck. The garage still stands to this day.
