Growing up very close to campus, I have been coming to campus my whole life. Both of my parents have worked for Pitt over 25 years. The Cathedral of Learning (I will not call it Cathy) brings me so much joy because it reminds me of all the fun times I had on this campus as a child, as a student and now an employee/alumna. As a kid, I knew as soon as I saw the Cathedral it meant we were going to do something fun and exciting on campus: Pitt Football games, tour of the Nationality Rooms, going to the “big” library, getting O Fries or listening to the radio at the Mazeroski Wall with my dad. We attended the Slovak Heritage Festival every year with my grandmother and one year we went to the Asian New Year celebration with my older sister and her husband to celebrate his Vietnamese culture. It was amazing. As a Student, I spent many nights studying on the first floor in my secret spot, going to the ground floor computer lab because I didn’t own a computer, running hand carries throughout the building for my work-study job, playing flag football with my sorority on the Cathedral Lawn and acting in my first small play in the basement theatre.
